Best Motorcycle Roads in Germany — Harley Rider's Guide

8 July 2026By Global Ridergermany, black forest, bavaria, europe, riding routes

Germany combines world-class road infrastructure with some of Europe's most spectacular riding terrain. From the Black Forest to the Bavarian Alps, here's where to ride.

Germany on a Harley

Germany is one of Europe's great motorcycle touring destinations. The road infrastructure is excellent, the scenery ranges from dramatic Alpine peaks to dense dark forests and Rhine valley vineyards, and the country's deep motorcycling culture means riders are welcomed everywhere.

The Black Forest (Schwarzwald)

The Black Forest High Road (B500) runs along the main ridge from Baden-Baden south to Freudenstadt — 60 kilometres with viewpoints across to the Alsace plain and, on clear days, the Swiss Alps.

Triberg — home to Germany's highest waterfall — makes a natural stopping point.

The Bavarian Alps

The Deutsche Alpenstrasse (German Alpine Road) runs along the full length of the Bavarian Alps from Lindau on Lake Constance to Berchtesgaden — 450 kilometres of mountain riding with views of peaks, lakes, and traditional villages.

The Kesselberg Pass between Kochel and Walchensee is one of Bavaria's finest motorcycle roads — short but intense, with tight switchbacks and a rewarding summit.

The Romantic Road

The Romantic Road is a 350-kilometre tourist route from Wurzburg in the north to Fussen in the south, passing through medieval walled towns and castles.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is the route's most celebrated stop — a perfectly preserved medieval town with intact city walls.

Neuschwanstein Castle near Fussen is the fairy-tale castle that inspired Disneyland.

The Rhine Valley

The Mittelrhein — the Rhine Gorge between Koblenz and Rudesheim — winds through castle-topped crags, vineyard terraces, and riverside towns.

Hamburg Harley Days

Germany's biggest Harley event takes place in Hamburg each summer, typically drawing over 500,000 visitors.
