Transfăgărășan Highway — Romania
Called "the best road in the world" by Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson, the Transfăgărășan Highway in Romania is one of Europe's most spectacular and challenging motorcycle roads. Built by Nicolae Ceaușescu across the Carpathian Mountains in the 1970s, the road climbs to 2,042m through hairpin bends, tunnels and mountain lakes. The views from the top over Lake Bâlea and into the Transylvanian valleys are extraordinary. The road is only open June–October due to heavy snowfall. Combine with Bran Castle (Dracula's castle), medieval Sibiu and the equally spectacular Transbucegi road.
